Wintry precipitation is possible in the Appalachian Mountains with some ice accretions expected for the southern/central Appalachians. Some light snow/ice accumulations will be possible over portions of the northern Plains. Showers and thunderstorms are expected across the Lower Ohio Valley southwest into the Southern Plains. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Shasta County mountains beginning tonight at 10PM thru 4 AM Tuesday, Dec 17. 5-12 inches of snow is forecast for elevations above 3000 feet, locally up to 2 feet over peaks.
A quick-moving system will bring moderate mountain snow late tonight into Monday. The highest snowfall amounts are expected for areas north of I-80, especially in Shasta County and near Lassen Park. Expect periods of snow-covered roads, travel delays and chain controls.
